Statistical consulting is among the most challenging and rewarding part of statistics. A consultant uses the art and science of statistics to solve practical problems from many different fields. (http://www.amstat.org/sections/cnsl/) However, most of consultants at universities and industry have graduate degree in Statistics or working on graduate degree leaving undergraduates no opportunity to learn this rewarding part of statistics. CASE (Center for Applied Statistics and Evaluation) is an undergraduate driven statistical consulting center. While students working with clients from a grant evaluation for Oral Health Alliance, to the community center study, they experienced transformative, active, and civic engagement learning, as well as an experience similar to undergraduate research and an internship. CASE helps students build a strong technical background in statistics, but more importantly good communication skills, common sense and a good business sense. With faculty consultants overseeing and mentoring them, they build strength in these areas.
